Subscribing to Relevant Information: Music

Signing up as a subscriber to an email list can be tricky. The ultimate goal of the consumer is to stay updated with the companies offers, and receive relevant and important information. We should only subscribe to an email list if the company is sending emails that contain valuable information to us. The first step is understanding why you should sign up. I am currently subscribed to the Franchise Record Pool email list. The reason why I signed up to this list is because every morning I receive an email with songs they have selected as being the best songs of the day. Whether they are remixes or bootlegs, it is still very important as a consumer of music content that I fresh and new music. The email provides me with music that no one has access to listening to. Only by becoming a member can you download these songs. Because I am provided with relevant information that peaks my interest about 85% of the emails I open up. The subject line in an email is the most crucial component of receiving an email. The subject line that I see each time I open up the email is “Franchise Record Pool Daily Upload Report”. The allows me to understand immediately that when I open the email, the content that I wanted to listen to is in the email. The quality of the content that is provided in the email is spot on. As soon as I open the email, in bold writing is the top 10 list of songs of the day. I do not have to scroll down or click on an additional link to find the song list. The email provides me with the list of songs of the day and it is very convenient. In addition to the daily reports I also receive the songs of the week each Monday morning. This email does provide too much content. There are too many songs to sift through and it would take way to long to listen to them all. With over 150 songs to listen to, your are not quite sure that each individual songs is as good of quality as the top 10 list for daily reports.

This is certainly segment dependent, where there are only a select amount of individuals who are willing to trust the selection of music by an organization that they are not familiar with. Usually people want to listen to what they already know or heard on the radio. Not remixes of songs they have never heard of. For me I am certainly receiving the content that I had signed up for. In the next email, something that may peak my interest even more may be a shorter list of daily song reports. There are the top 10 songs for each genre and this still is a lot of music to take in. If there were the top 5, then I would know that each song is a hit.

Getting people to choose your song

The music that you are making must be relevant yet different from the music currently being made. Of course listeners appreciate throwbacks but it is crucial that the instruments and sounds are sounds that are currently being used in the present. Whatever style of music you are producing the beats must be fresh and in line with the current sounds of the year. To further explain and clarify, take a kick drum for example. In the 1990’s the kick drum sound was completely different from the kick drum that producers now use. It is now punchier and it hits a lot harder. For example, now in rap kick drums and 808’s are primarily used together to get a solid low end. Whereas previously more live sounding basses were used. Now that we have established that you are make current and relevant music you are ready to launch it to the public. Getting it in front of the eyes of listeners can be very difficult. That is why it’s important to understand how to connect them to access your song. It is important that when a person types in the genre or style of music you play, people are able to find your music. Furthermore if a person is looking for classic rock, you would need to make sure that in your URL and Main Content, you set keywords such as classic rock. This allows for people to find your music even if they do not know who you are. It increases the chances of someone clicking on your link and listening. The keywords you do choose are very crucial to the likelihood that a person clicks on your song. This is why it is important to understand which words or phrases are most searched. By using Google’s keyword planner you can search for the term or phrase you would like to set as a keyword. It will show on average  how many people search it per the month. If your style of music is very particular than you would want to set long tail keywords. This will help separate you from the competition. So rather than using fat head keyword watches such as “EDM” use the name of sub-genre for example “Future Bass” as a keyword in the main content. Also by using third parties to link your song to their page can also help drive traffic and increase your views. Especially if the third party gets a lot of followers or views. This can greatly increase your views as well. Using high profile instagram users that provide a link to your music can greatly increase the traffic to your music. The more know they are the more views you  are likely to receive. The more relevant and current the genre/ style of music you make will also will make more people interested in listening to what you offer. Take classic rock for example. Classic rock is a genre that has been decreasing in average views per month for the past 20 years. Whereas rap, hip-hop,  and EDM have been emerging.
